Toward the Light Above

Toward the Light Above

I’ve spent years painting light as it lands. This piece asked me to paint light as it escapes. That inversion changed everything. The horizon was gone. Gravity was gone. What remained was a vertical longing — the eye pulled upward toward the surface, where two worlds press against each other.
The greens became layered - deep emerald at the bottom, warmer through the middle, then that extraordinary silver-blue just below the surface where sunlight fractures and becomes almost audible. Building luminosity through transparency, the way light actually moves through water - not resting on the surface, but passing through.

When I stepped back, I felt something I don’t always let myself name. That this painting had taken me somewhere - down into the quiet, and then slowly upward. Toward warmth. 'Toward the Light Above' that was always there, waiting.
