Original Painting from the Stillwater Series, 'Glitter Line'

Some moments are divine. I believe most probably are. A small piece of me is certain that I've missed millions of perfect, sacred moments, simply because I never looked. This truth still finds me, unexpectedly, and it saddens me every time: if only I had paid attention, I could have kept them.

Looking and giving your whole attention to something is a kind of love. Glancing is just its shadow. I want to be the kind of person who loves life this way. Who stops. Who kneels down inside a moment instead of walking past its door. Glitter Line holds this longing for me. It captures the distance between glancing at beauty and truly receiving it.

Mercy, I've come to learn, works the same way. It is not hidden from us, only waiting. Slow down long enough, and you'll find it: tangible, shimmering, like light on water.

Glitter Line took place one evening, when the sun sits just low enough and spreads its rays wide - that in-between place where heaven meets earth. And as I watched, the rays blurred until they read as if only one line – a single beam stretching across the water. It was a strikingly brilliant line, like pure glitter. It felt sacred to me. Still is.

So within Glitter Line's honeyed golds and quiet blues, is the love I felt that evening. The attention I freely gave. The divinity I was lucky enough to see.
