Hovering over the Waters
Hovering over the Waters
I was driving a familiar stretch along the water when the sunset hit and I had to pull over.
The light was deep orange - the kind that feels like it has weight. It moved across the water in fragments, breaking apart and reassembling, as if the lake was trying to hold something it couldn’t quite contain. I didn’t take a photograph. It was one of those moments where choosing to be present was more important that documenting it. I stayed and watched until it was gone.
Back in the studio, I painted from memory - chasing something that refused to be fixed. Light on water won’t hold still. Shadows were at play with the sun, 'Hovering Over the Waters'.
